This girl | Personal

March 5, 2010

Hey little, girl.

Yeah, I’m talking to you little girl. The one that has been waking up all smiles and hugs with a bright and cheery, “Good morning, mama!” for the past coupla weeks.

The one that has been taking what seems like HOURS to complete a simple meal of peanut butter sandwich, carrots, yogurt with granola and a swig of juice.

The one that likes to tell stories about her day and use the phrase, “and also” in the wrong places and at the wrong times.

I love you. And a few days ago you turned four. And these past four years you have completely blown me away with how much you’ve grown from a little bald baby, to a running wild thing!

Happy birthday, sweet Ella.

Love, Mama.

My dad | PERSONAL

February 12, 2010

This is my dad. My mom and dad divorced when I was in grade school. I don’t know him well at all, but I love him nonetheless.

This photo was obviously taken before mom and dad were divorced. It was 1979. The year I was born. My mom and dad were in England, stationed on an American army base in Lakenheath. I have the story that goes along with my birth which I will share later. But for now…

Sometimes in my head, I see this picture and that’s the way I see my dad when I have those few and far between conversations with him on the phone. Or when I’m reading those infrequent e-mails we send each other.

The thing I love most about this photo is that my mom took it. I can imagine her. Tired and weary from the responsibilities of a new child. Looking lovingly at  me. Lovingly at my dad.

Holding the camera.

Clicking away.

One at a time.

This is why I love photography, the art of photography and the feelings it emotes.

This moment in time.

Even though I was too young to remember it. I will always remember this.

ACK! Sorry for the lack of posts. This week has been straight B.A.N.A.N.A.S. So B.A.N.A.N.A.S. that I have had three purses in the car and every time I get out to do something i had to take ALL THREE PURSES IN WITH ME BECAUSE I HAVEN’T HAD TIME TO COMBINE AND CONDENSE!

Anywho. I like that I’ve had my camera with me and picked it up just for fun. This kind of started because of a discussion with some fellow photogs at the [b] school. The question was, what do you shoot for fun? And in my head I was all, um, stuff? So here it is; more of the stuff I shoot for fun. Mainly the kids of course. And scenes from around the house. Oh, and a small confession, these aren’t scenes from Saturday but from Friday. But I needed to keep it consistent.

Ella’s class made these today. I swore it was a cat but upon further discussion of her weekly lesson with the letter “k”, it’s a kangaroo.

The neighbor’s morning glory takes over our fence every Spring. This Spring won’t be any different.

Thank you for looking.

Oh, and lots of good stuff coming to the blog in February! An engagement session at the Court House in San Francisco, another engagement session out in Vernalis, bridal shoot out in the country, more from the wedding I second shot with Caitlin Cathey and of course more scenes from Saturday. YAY for keeping busy! and YAY to you for coming back to support me!

In the city | Personal

One of things I love about this little rural city we moved to a few years ago, is the fact that we are so close to San Francisco. We are one hour and five minutes East of San Francisco. (OK, not that close). One hour is a long time in the car with the girls but BART makes it go faster. Check out Oli working the iPhone. SO easy A KID CAN DO IT!

Labor Day weekend we headed to the Bay Urrrea (yup, that was some E-40 right there) and chilled with Jason, Patty and Patty’s family. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Seriously. Dolores Park is a block away from our friends house. We headed there with drinks, snacks and sunblock.
